Modular tracked welding vehicle ARCOTRAC

The Vietz Arcotrac is a modular tracked welding vehicle concept specially developed for pipeline construction with large pipe diameters.
Conventional tracked welding vehicles are manufactured by converting or adding to often disused side boom tracked vehicles or bulldozers whose initial machine concept never intended such use. Naturally, this results in economic disadvantages in operation as well as a functionality that falls far short of the ideal.

The Arcotrac product range, on the other hand, has been designed and further developed to ideally perform the functions of a tracked paywelder.
For example, the Vietz Arcotrac range uses only one engine to move the vehicle as well as to supply the crane hydraulics and the electric generator. Conventional tracked welding vehicles are dependent on the use of a separate power generator, whose engine must be supplied separately with fuel, maintained and not least also housed.

The operator controls the Arcotrac’s hydraulic crane directly from the driver’s seat in the cab. The crane is mounted at the front of the machine, giving the operator an optimum view of the working area. In this way he positions the welding tent particularly simply and precisely. Depending on the customer’s requirements, the Vietz Arcotrac offers a choice of different crane types, so that lifting capacity and reach can be ideally adapted to the requirements of the application.

The tracked undercarriage makes the Vietz Arcotrac superior to most wheeled vehicles off-road. Sufficient ground clearance and climbing ability up to 30° allow use even in rough terrain. The track drive is optionally available with rubber pads for the grouser shoes for use on paved surfaces. These, for example, protect asphalt roads from damage.

The drives can be moved at two travel speeds to allow the machine operator optimum control when manoeuvring, but also to cover distances in a short time.
Depending on the version, the three-phase generator of the Vietz Arcotrac allows the simultaneous operation of up to six welding inverters. This reduces welding times and speeds up the construction of a pipeline considerably. Vietz equips the Arcotrac with its own inverters or inverters from third party suppliers in accordance with customer requirements. It is also possible to accommodate equipment for automated welding processes.

Additional sockets allow the connection of electric handheld and auxiliary machines. For welding operations with shielding gas applications, the Vietz Arcotrac has holding frames for four or six standard steel cylinders for shielding gases. These are standard on the Arcotrac 1800 version and all versions in accordance with Euro IV/Tier 4 as hydraulically lowerable frames, available as such on all other versions. Vietz GmbH also offers the successful Arcotrac series in versions that comply with the current Euro IV and TIER 4 emission standards especially for use in countries with high environmental requirements.

In addition to the air compressor, the compressor module also contains two pressure vessels with a total volume of 300 l and connectors for pneumatically operated machines, for example an internal line-up clamp (IPC) from Vietz. The compressor delivers up to 930 l of compressed air per minute at an operating pressure of 15 bar, allowing the internal tank of an IPC to be filled quickly. The compressor is supplied with a dust protection filter, which allows operation even in environments with a high dust content in the ambient air.

Where it is necessary to illuminate the construction site, the optional lighting mast of the Vietz Arcotrac is an invaluable extension. The rotating lighting mast can be pneumatically extended to a height of 5 m and delivered with various light sources. The Vietz Arcotrac must be equipped with the compressor module to use the light mast.

The driver’s cab is ROPS-tested and equipped with a heater as standard. As an option, the cab can be equipped with an additional air conditioning system to provide the machine operator with a pleasant working environment in hot climates.
